A health expert has called for greater compliance with government and World Health Organization Covid-19 regulations as cases of the pandemic in Zimbabwe continue to increase at an alarming rate.
Health Expert Dr Enoch Mayida said it is important for people to realize that they have a huge role to play in curbing the spread of the pandemic. He also highlighted the critical role played by law enforcement agents in the enforcement of covid-19 protocols.
“If people are being told to wear masks covering the nose and mouth, they should do as required. In most cases masks are worn leaving out the nose or the mask will be on the chin leaving the mouth and nose exposed and this is not helping at all”, said Dr Mayida.
He also warned that the new covid-19 variant is spreading at a faster rate compared to the original virus.
“The number of people dying due to covid-19 as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare has increased. The new wave of the virus is said to be a fast spreader with 70% infection rate more than the first virus”, he said.
As at 06 January 2021, Zimbabwe had 17 804 confirmed cases, including 11 966 recoveries and 431 deaths.
