Zimplats, Zimbabwe’s top platinum miner, has restarted its US$1.8 billion expansion, focusing on local refining. The company paused last year due to falling platinum prices but is now building a new, larger smelter to enhance value addition in Zimbabwe.
Managing Director Segula highlighted that Zimplats is committed to growing its operations and bringing the refining process into the country. Deputy Minister Rajeshkumar Modi praised Zimplats for its contributions to industrialization and community development.
Zimplats operates five mines and three concentrators, processing 4.9 million tons annually, with significant investments in local communities and partnerships with indigenous companies.
