A Zvishavane trio has been slapped with a 18 month jail term after a court found them guilty of assault as defined in the criminal law codification and reform act chapter 9:23.
It was state’s case that on 28 May 2021 at around 0900hours the three accused Mario Ndega (21), Yonnah Sopatisa (26) and Maxwell Mambo (20)
went to the complainant Trevor Sibanda’s homestead and told the complainant that they had come collect Shyleen Ndlovu who is the wife to the complainant’s brother.
A misunderstanding arose and the three accused members took wooden sticks and hit the complainant on the back. They struck the complainant with fists all over the body and the complainant sustained bruises.
Zvishavane magistrate Charity Tonongera found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced them each to 6 months in prison but wholly suspended the sentences on condition they ZW$5000 fine before the 24th June 2021 .
