Cleopas Chapu, an 18-year-old inmate at Kachara Prison in Guruve, has been sentenced to an additional 12 months in prison for escaping from lawful custody.
Chapu, who was serving a 16-month sentence for unlawful entry, escaped on November 5, 2024, while assigned to water vegetables. Prison officers discovered his absence during a routine roll call and later found evidence of his escape near a dam.
Chapu was apprehended and brought before the Guruve Magistrates’ Court, where he was convicted under Section 185(1) of the Criminal Law Act.
