The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed an armed robbery at Metro Peach Wholesale in Kwekwe, occurring on 25 July 2024 at approximately midnight.
ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, six unidentified suspects armed with a gun overpowered two security guards on night duty. The assailants damaged the lights and alarm systems before tying up the guards in the guardroom.
Inspector Mahoko said the robbers then used explosives to blast open the shop’s safe, stealing cash amounts of US$23,010, ZWG21,840, and ZAR24,320. They fled the scene immediately after the heist.
He said the security guards managed to free themselves and reported the incident to the police. ZRP Kwekwe Central officers responded and initiated an investigation. No arrests have been made, and none of the stolen money has been recovered.
The police urge anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.
