Villagers in Chingwizi, Mwenezi, have urgently appealed to the government and humanitarian partners to extend their assistance as the area grapples with an escalating hunger crisis.
In interviews, some residents revealed that desperate families are now resorting to extreme measures for survival, with some consuming sugarcane, while others are washing chemical-treated maize seed to make it edible.
Chingwizi is home to over 3,000 families who were displaced by the 2014 Tokwe-Mukosi floods in Chivi District, roughly 150 kilometers away. The community continues to rely heavily on external support as food insecurity worsens.
