A 21-year-old man from Shackleton Mine in Chinhoyi, Knowledge Jani, has been sentenced to three years in prison for malicious damage to property following a violent domestic dispute. Jani was arraigned before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court on charges of destroying his father’s house and car.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on April 22, 2024, when Jani went to his father and stepmother’s home and accused them of causing his illness. In a fit of rage, Jani set his father’s Nissan Sunny ablaze after draining fuel from the vehicle, which he used to ignite the house. The total damage caused to the property amounted to USD 14,000.
The court sentenced Jani to four years in prison, with one year suspended, leaving him to serve an effective three-year term.
