Cuba has been hit by a nationwide blackout, leaving 10 million people without power after the Antonio Guiteras plant, the island’s largest, went offline on Friday. The collapse follows months of prolonged outages, prompting Prime Minister Manuel Marrero to declare an “energy emergency” the day before.

President Miguel DĆaz-Canel vowed to restore power quickly, but officials say the timeline remains unclear. Schools, non-essential services, and activities have been suspended, with residents urged to limit electricity use.

The crisis has heightened public frustration, with citizens recalling past protests triggered by blackouts, food spoilage, and water shortages. The government cites fuel shortages and infrastructure issues as the main causes of the collapse, raising concerns about potential unrest if conditions persist.
