Legislator Gladys Hlatshwayo has raised concerns over the government’s failure to allocate funding for the Independent Complaints Commission, a key institution tasked with addressing security service misconduct.

Speaking recently, Hlatshwayo criticized the absence of a budget for the commission, warning that its effectiveness in holding security services accountable was being severely undermined.

The Independent Complaints Commission was formed to investigate and address grievances related to the conduct of the police, military, and other security forces. It was hailed as a milestone in promoting transparency and protecting citizens’ rights.

Hlatwayo questioned the government’s commitment to accountability and called for immediate action to rectify the situation.
