Housing and Social Amenities Minister Paul Mavima has urged stakeholders to partner with government in delivering critical infrastructure such as schools, clinics, roads and water systems, saying housing development must go beyond simply building homes.
Speaking on the need for a coordinated approach, Mavima said collaboration is key to addressing gaps in social housing, particularly for low-income earners, civil servants and young people entering the workforce.
He noted that many Zimbabweans take decades to complete homes due to financial constraints, stressing the need for practical, scalable solutions that make housing more accessible. The minister called for a “one thinking desk” approach to bring together government and private players to develop sustainable models.
Mavima said decent housing must be supported by access to quality education and healthcare, arguing that young people in particular need a strong foundation to thrive.
He added that ongoing macroeconomic improvements should translate into real benefits for citizens, including easier access to affordable housing and essential services.
The minister said stakeholders must create an environment where obtaining a first home is no longer a struggle, but a realistic and achievable goal for ordinary Zimbabweans.
