Rescuers in Assam, India are racing against time to save nine miners trapped in a flooded “rat-hole” coal mine.
Three miners are feared dead after the mine, located in the remote Dima Hasao district, was flooded on Monday. Despite a ban on such mining since 2014, illegal mines continue to operate.
The Indian Army has joined the rescue efforts, deploying divers and medical teams. Initial reports indicate that some miners managed to escape, while authorities continue to assess the number of trapped individuals.
