The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning of potential flooding, strong winds, and heavy rains expected to affect the Midlands and Great Dyke areas over the next few days. Head meteorologist James Ngoma highlighted that moisture is expected to drift in from the west, bringing significant rainfall, especially to Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, and parts of the Midlands Province.
Ngoma cautioned that some areas could receive rainfall totals exceeding 50mm, which could lead to flash flooding. He also warned of the risk of fallen trees and swollen rivers in these regions. MSD advised the public to stay clear of flooded rivers and flood-prone areas, and to avoid being outdoors during storms, as heavy rainfall could reduce visibility on the roads and make surfaces slippery.
The MSD’s warning emphasizes the importance of preparedness, urging residents to take necessary precautions as the weather conditions develop over the coming days.
