The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), has revealed that the Midlands Province experienced a concerning number of electricity-related accidents in 2024, totaling 25 incidents.
Speaking recently ZERA Midlands Regional Electricity Inspector Wellington Nyamakawu said of the 25, 4 were fatal, with 75% of the victims had no electricity at home. He said additionally, 12 accidents resulted in injuries, and 9 of these incidents involved livestock. He indicated that in January 2025 alone 6 accidents have been reported.
Nyamakawu emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and caution from all stakeholders in the electricity sector and the community. He said these accidents occur anywhere, anytime.
