The US$7 million fraud trial of Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu faced yet another delay at the Harare High Court. Justice Pisirayi Kwenda ordered the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) to bring Chimombe to court after he missed the morning session due to illness.

Defense lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku requested a postponement, citing informal updates that Chimombe was still unwell.

The judge, frustrated by ZPCS’s lack of communication, insisted on his presence or a detailed medical report.

Chimombe was later brought to court but appeared visibly unwell, even sleeping in the dock. When asked to respond, he stated, “I have nothing to say,” deferring to his lawyer. The trial was postponed to March 17—five months after its scheduled start.
