The National Civil Protection Unit has urged the public to heed weather advisories amid ongoing heavy rains that have caused widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and loss of life across the country.
Acting Deputy Director for Response and Coordination, Veronica Bare, emphasized the need for proactive measures to mitigate risks, including adhering to evacuation protocols and avoiding flooded areas.
She said reports indicate damage to homes, marooning incidents, and river overflows affecting both rural and urban communities. She indicated that tragically, some lives have been lost, though emergency teams, including sub-aqua rescue units, have successfully assisted stranded individuals.
Bare said authorities have activated response mechanisms, dispatching critical resources such as fuel for emergency teams, food supplies, and temporary shelter for displaced families. She reassured the public that evacuation centers are operational nationwide, urging those in high-risk zones to seek refuge until conditions stabilize.
