Benin authorities have arrested three men, including former sports minister Oswald Homeky and the head of President Patrice Talon’s security, over an alleged coup plot.
Homeky was reportedly caught handing six bags of money to Republican Guard chief Elonm Mario Metonou. Investigators allege Col Djimon Dieudonne Tevoedjre was bribed to not resist a planned coup.
Businessman Olivier Boko, a friend of President Talon, was also detained. His supporters condemned the arrest as an “abduction.” Investigations are ongoing to identify more suspects.
