Cameroon’s preparations for the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers have been marred by chaos, as selected players for the Indomitable Lions have yet to report to the camp in Douala, the team’s designated base. The former African champions are set to face Namibia at home on September 7, followed by a match against Zimbabwe in Kampala, Uganda, three days later.
In an urgent move, Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has called up the U20 team to train in place of the absent senior players. The U20s, who had been training at the CAF Centre of Excellence in Mbankomo, have since arrived at La Falaise hotel in Douala, the original gathering location for the Indomitable Lions.
FECAFOOT issued a statement highlighting “unfortunate dysfunctions” disrupting the senior team’s preparations, blaming individuals with “malicious intentions” for interfering with player logistics and tarnishing the country’s image. The Federation emphasized that the 24 players summoned by the national coach are expected to arrive in Douala by 8 a.m. on September 4, warning of potential consequences for non-compliance.
