The Zifa Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) has moved to calm tensions in the title race, dismissing recent media reports of favoritism and underhand dealings as “baseless” and warning that such allegations risk destabilizing the game.
In a strongly worded press statement released on 3 October, the CRSL Board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding fairness and integrity across the competition, stressing that no team is being given preferential treatment.
“As we approach the climax of the league season, it is imperative to emphasize that these claims are not only baseless but also pose a significant threat to the stability and progress of football in our region,” the statement read.
The board urged all 18 member clubs to maintain the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship, warning that any conduct compromising the integrity of the competition would be met with “swift and decisive disciplinary measures.”
While not naming specific cases, the CRSL expressed concern over what it described as “misinformation” being spread through media platforms with the intent to destabilize the league. It called on stakeholders—including clubs, sponsors, players, and fans—to refrain from making statements that could incite unnecessary tension or damage reputations.
“The outcome of our league will be determined on the pitch, where skill, strategy, and determination will be the deciding factors,” the board emphasized.
The statement also encouraged stakeholders who may have genuine concerns to come forward through official channels to enable thorough investigations.
“If there is any reason to believe that there are underhand dealings meant to undermine the integrity of our league, we encourage all stakeholders to come forward through our official communication channels,” the board added.
As the title race intensifies—with Sheasham, Hardrock, and Gwanda Pirates all in contention—the CRSL has called for calmness and sober reflection, insisting the integrity of the game remains its top priority.
