More than 27 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and more than 883,176 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
More than 19 million people have recovered.
The United States reported 42,095 new Covid-19 cases and 707 virus-related deaths on Friday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. That raises the national total to at least 6,431,152 cases and 192,818 deaths.
Brazil’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 31,199 additional cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s total infections to at least 4.1 million.
The country also reported 646 additional fatalities, bringing the death toll to 126,230. Brazil ranks second to the United States in the number of cases and infections worldwide.
India recorded 86,432 new coronavirus cases on Friday, marking the country’s highest single-day jump in infections since the pandemic began, its health ministry said Saturday.Ā
Friday’s figure pushed India’s total number of cases past 4 million. The total now stands at 4,110,839 infections of which more than 3.1 million have recovered and 846,395 are still active. The country’s virus-related death toll stands at 70,679.
This is the third consecutive day India has recorded more than 80,000 new cases. Globally, it is the third worst-affected country after the United States and Brazil, which have 6.2 million and 4.09 million cases respectively.Ā
The outbreak of the new coronavirus has reached every nation in Africa, a continent of 1.2 billion people, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stands atĀ 31,131,Ā with deaths including the former president of theĀ Republic of the Congo,Ā Jacques Joachim Yhombi-Opango, and Somalia’s former Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein. There areĀ 1,297,322Ā confirmed infections andĀ 1,033,734 Ā recoveries.
South Africa’s death toll now stands at 14 779, with Ā confirmed cases up to 636 884. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that there had been 101 new Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking South Africa’s total number of fatalities to 14 779. The recovery rate currently stands at 88%.
As of yesterday, the 5th of September Zimbabwe has recorded 6,837 cases of the coronavirus, 206 deaths and 5,345 recoveries with at least 1 thousand active cases.
At least three of the companies working to develop a coronavirus vaccine are putting together an unusual joint pledge promising not to seek approval for their vaccines until they have been proven safe and effective, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The Wall Street Journal said the pledge would be aimed at calming worries about a rush to approve a vaccine early, before trials have adequately demonstrated whether any experimental immunizations really work.
