A tragic incident occurred in Somerai Village under Chief Chingoma in Mberengwa on September 8, 2024, where Thokozile Gumbo, 47, was killed by a crocodile while fetching water from Mundi Dam.
According to reports, Gumbo had gone to the dam around 11:00 a.m. while her husband, Adrine Moyo, 50, went to collect firewood. When Moyo returned home around noon and found that his wife had not returned, he went to the dam to look for her. Upon arrival, he encountered villagers who informed him that Gumbo might have been dragged into the water by a crocodile.
A search was conducted, and Gumbo’s body was later discovered with a fractured right leg and bite wounds on her thigh. The incident was reported to the police, who attended the scene for further investigations.
