The estimated worth of the lost goods, stock, and valuables is a staggering ZWL$80 million. The blaze was reportedly triggered by an unattended electric gadget left operational.
Traders that spoke to the media said the fire, first detected around 11 pm on Tuesday. They indicated that 300 people were housed within the market, making its destruction a severe blow to the local workforce.
Particularly affected were families, including widows, orphans, and youth who depended on the market for their sustenance. The affected traders are appealing to the government for assistance in restoring the market area.
