President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged ZANU PF members to strictly abide by the party’s constitution, warning that deviation from established rules could endanger the party’s legacy and disrupt national progress.
Speaking at the 21st ZANU PF National People’s Conference in Bulawayo, Mnangagwa emphasized that discipline and adherence to constitutional principles are non-negotiable.
“At this stage of our political development and the maturity of our party, all cadets are challenged to adhere to our deeply entrenched party discipline, rules, and the correct line,” Mnangagwa said. “The correct line is not determined by you or me—it is established by the party constitution.”
He cautioned that any deviation from the party’s guidelines could result in dire consequences for Zimbabwe’s liberation movement and the people’s revolution.
The conference held under the theme “Industrialize and Modernize Towards the Attainment of Vision 2030,” also saw delegates unanimously endorse a resolution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term beyond the constitutional two-term limit. Delegates directed the Government to initiate constitutional amendments, arguing that Mnangagwa’s leadership is vital to completing the transformative development programmes he has initiated.
Despite the overwhelming support from the party, President Mnangagwa reiterated that he would not seek a third term.
