In a dramatic bust, police in Gokwe have arrested two women for illegal possession of dagga, following a tip-off that led officers to their homestead in Siachangwa Village under Chief Simchembu. The duo, identified as Rosemary Siangubula (47) and Queen Sijima (39), were apprehended on August 15, 2024, after police found large quantities of the illegal substance stashed in their huts.

Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the two women, who are co-wives married to 51-year-old John Mudenda, were living in separate huts when the police made the discovery.

He indicated that a team of officers, acting on a tip-off, conducted a search of the property, uncovering the contraband.

In Rosemary’s hut, police seized four 20-liter buckets and a small plastic bag, all filled with prepared dagga. Queen’s hut was also searched, revealing a sack filled with loose dried dagga. The women were promptly taken into custody and transferred to Gokwe Police Station, where their case was documented before their initial court appearance on August 17, 2024.

The case has been remanded to August 22, 2024, as authorities continue their investigation. The street value of the seized dagga is yet to be determined, but the quantity recovered suggests a significant operation.

Inspector Mahoko used the occasion to remind the public that the possession or dealing of dangerous drugs without a license is a serious offense. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to crack down on illegal drug activities in the region.
