In a daring pre-dawn raid that has left the community reeling, a gang of balaclava-clad robbers stormed a residence in Kanengoni village, Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central, making off with a staggering 85 kilograms of gold valued at US$6.5 million.

The brazen attack unfolded around 1:20 AM on July 6th, when three assailants wielding machetes forcefully entered the premises through a broken window. Their target: the valuable cache hidden within a wooden cabinet. The owner of the gold, whose identity remains undisclosed, faced a harrowing ordeal as the robbers ransacked the property.

“The suspects mercilessly looted US$6,500 in cash along with the 85kg of precious gold,” stated Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesman.
