In a daring pre-dawn raid that has left the community reeling, a gang of balaclava-clad robbers stormed a residence in Kanengoni village, Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central, making off with a staggering 85 kilograms of gold valued at US$6.5 million.
The brazen attack unfolded around 1:20 AM on July 6th, when three assailants wielding machetes forcefully entered the premises through a broken window. Their target: the valuable cache hidden within a wooden cabinet. The owner of the gold, whose identity remains undisclosed, faced a harrowing ordeal as the robbers ransacked the property.
“The suspects mercilessly looted US$6,500 in cash along with the 85kg of precious gold,” stated Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesman. The scale and precision of the theft have prompted an urgent police investigation, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
