The partnership between Eureka Gold Mine and the Guruve community is heralding a new era of rural modernization through impactful sustainable development initiatives. This collaboration was showcased during the commissioning of 15 newly constructed homesteads and solar-powered boreholes, a significant milestone in efforts to uplift the living standards of rural communities.
The event, held at Bome Farm in Guruve, was officiated by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, Captain (Rtd) Christopher Magomo, who lauded the partnership as a model for community-driven development.
Minister Magomo emphasized the importance of such collaborations in achieving the national vision of inclusive growth and highlighted the transformative potential of investments that align with community needs.
āEureka Gold Mineās commitment to improving the livelihoods of its host community is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in driving sustainable development. We urge other communities to embrace similar partnerships that align with the governmentās National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1),ā said Minister Magomo.
Traditional leader Chief Chipuriro also commended the positive impact brought about by Dallaglioās management of Eureka Gold Mine since its acquisition in 2018. He noted that the mine has significantly enhanced operations and prioritized corporate social responsibility, directly benefitting the Guruve community.
āSince the takeover by Dallaglio, we have witnessed meaningful progress, not only in the mineās operations but also in the surrounding community. Such initiatives demonstrate how working with investors can catalyze economic development and raise living standards,ā Chief Chipuriro remarked.
The newly commissioned homesteads are part of a broader resettlement program to accommodate families relocated from mining areas. Each homestead is equipped with modern amenities, providing families with a dignified standard of living.
The solar-powered boreholes, located in strategic sites including Bome Farm, Nanitale Farm, and Guruve Primary School, are set to provide clean water to over 600 households and benefit approximately 2,100 schoolchildren.
Eureka Gold Mineās Managing Director highlighted the mineās ongoing commitment to community development, emphasizing that the projects aim to address key challenges faced by the community, such as water scarcity and inadequate housing. āWe believe in fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with our host community, and these projects are just the beginning of a long-term investment in improving lives,ā he said.
In addition to the homesteads and boreholes, Eureka Gold Mine has initiated other community development projects, including the donation of 240 blankets and bed linen to Guruve District Hospital, ensuring every bed at the hospital is covered. The mine is also investing in educational infrastructure by upgrading Muroiwa Primary School at an estimated cost of USD 150,000.
The project includes constructing additional classrooms, renovating existing facilities, and building staff cottages.
