A fatal crane collapse occurred earlier yesterday at the Mbudzi (Trabablas) Interchange construction site, claiming the life of a contractor. Tefoma Construction (Pvt) Ltd, the consortium managing the high-profile project, confirmed the tragic event in a statement.
The incident happened during the dismantling of a static tower crane by subcontracted specialists from Manzlink (Pvt) Ltd. According to Tefoma, a mechanical failure led to the collapse of both the static tower crane and a mobile crane involved in the de-erection process.
The victim, an employee of Manzlink, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Tefoma expressed deep condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues, pledging full cooperation with Manzlink in providing support during this difficult time.
The Mbudzi Interchange, a critical infrastructure project expected to ease traffic congestion in Harare, has been underway for several months.
