In an endeavor to revitalize the foundry industry, the upcoming 2nd edition of the Metal Casting and Engineering Summit and Awards 2023, spearheaded by the Zimbabwe Institute of Foundries (ZIF), is poised to spotlight the critical role of technological innovation and import substitution.
The Chief Operating Officer of ZIF, Mr. Dosman Mangisi, emphasized the pivotal focus of the summit on retooling, adoption of new technologies, and fostering innovation within the foundry sector.
He said aim is to harness new technologies and drive import substitution, placing the foundry industry at the forefront of our national development agenda.
Under the theme, “Value Addition and Beneficiation of Metals – Developing Local Markets for Metal Casting Engineering,” the two-day summit, scheduled from December 7th to 8th, 2023, aims to explore avenues for value addition and expansion within the metal casting domain.
Honorable Zhemu Soda, the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, is slated to grace the event as the guest of honor, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting and fostering growth within the foundry sector.
Mangisi underscored the critical need for retooling initiatives, emphasizing the importance of forging partnerships with financial institutions to secure funding for sectoral development. The summit is expected to serve as a platform for robust discussions and collaborations in this regard.
Highlighting the broader scope for growth, Mangisi stressed the imperative for the foundry industry to capitalize on opportunities across various sectors such as mining, agriculture, transport, construction, and infrastructure.
The focus remains on reducing reliance on imports by fostering local production of essential equipment like hammer mills and other machinery.
