Four people narrowly escaped death on December 1, 2024, after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a herd of cattle at the 89-kilometer peg along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road.
ZRP Midlands spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, identifying the driver as Musekiwa Josiah (50) of Kwekwe. Josiah was driving a white Toyota Dyna truck carrying three passengers when the accident occurred.
“Upon reaching the 89-kilometer peg, the vehicle hit four cattle that were crossing the road. The truck veered off the road and came to a stop on the left side,” said Inspector Mahoko.
All four occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Gokwe South District Hospital by well-wishers for treatment.
Inspector Mahoko emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly in areas prone to animal crossings. “We appeal to motorists to avoid speeding and exercise a high degree of caution on the roads. Such accidents can be prevented with vigilance and adherence to speed limits,” he said.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges all road users to be alert and considerate to ensure safer travel, especially during the festive season when road traffic incidents tend to increase.
