Thousands of supporters of Ghana’s main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have staged nationwide protests, calling for an independent forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December 2024 elections. The NDC claims errors, including illegal name transfers, missing voters, and the inclusion of over 50,000 deceased individuals, remain on the electoral roll.

Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s director of elections, insists that an independent audit is vital to ensure a fair election, suggesting the UN Development Programme could oversee the process. However, the Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed the audit demands as unnecessary, stating that previously identified errors have already been corrected.
