Obed Masarakufa (39), a caretaker at Kwekwe Cemetery, has been convicted on four charges, including disorderly conduct, violating graves, and issuing threats.
On August 5, Masarakufa blocked a visitor from entering the cemetery, sparking an altercation. Later, on August 26, he vandalized two tombstones linked to the dispute. On September 11, Masarakufa escalated the matter by threatening the same complainant at her shop.
The Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to pay a USD100 fine or serve 30 days in jail for disorderly conduct. For vandalizing graves, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with nine months suspended on the condition of completing 315 hours of community service.
Additionally, a USD200 fine was imposed for issuing threats.
