Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas and one of Israel’s most-wanted figures, has been killed in Gaza, according to Israeli authorities. Sinwar, who had been a central figure in the group’s operations, was allegedly behind the large-scale attacks launched on October 7.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog described Sinwar as a “key architect of terror,” accusing him of orchestrating violence and instability across the region.
In a separate incident, local authorities in Gaza reported that 22 civilians were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit a school sheltering displaced families in Jabalia, northern Gaza. Israel claims the facility was being used as a meeting point for operatives from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, a claim that Hamas has denied.
The latest developments mark an escalation in the ongoing conflict, with rising civilian casualties and heightened regional tensions.
