In a bizarre and chilling case of domestic violence, a 47-year-old man from Hwange was arraigned before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing physical abuse charges after a heated argument over ice cream turned violent. The incident occurred on June 29, 2024, at around 10 AM, when the accused refused to buy ice cream for their daughter, claiming he had no money.
What started as a simple request from the complainant, his 44-year-old wife, spiraled into a violent altercation. The husband, enraged, allegedly charged at his wife, strangling her with his bare hands. The commotion only ceased when neighbors approached, prompting the accused to flee the scene.
The court sentenced the man to a fine of USD 400, payable by August 30, 2024, or alternatively, three months imprisonment if he fails to pay. Additionally, a further three months of imprisonment were suspended for five years on condition of good behavior.
