Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa’s business offices were attacked with petrol bombs early Sunday morning by unknown assailants.
Masimirembwa confirmed the attack, stating that two unmarked Toyota Fortuners and a Honda Fit arrived at the premises around 4 a.m. The assailants doused a barricade and the security guard with petrol, setting both on fire. “They beat up the security guard, poured petrol on him, and set him alight,” said Masimirembwa.
The attackers also threw a petrol bomb into the office, destroying a bookshelf. Fortunately, no sensitive materials were damaged. The guard, suffering from severe burns, ran to a nearby property for help.
Following a hospital visit, Masimirembwa reported that the guard sustained burns on 80% of his body and is receiving intensive care.
“We pray for his recovery, but he is in very serious condition,” he added.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
