ln a chilling early morning robbery in Gweru, a gang of six armed men stormed into a family’s home, ransacking the property and making off with valuables worth nearly US$12,000
Speaking to Great Dyke News, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer for the Midlands Province said the shocking incident took place in the Harben Park residential area on January 26, 2025, at approximately 2:20 AM.
Inspector Mahoko said Sixty-year-old Mary Chakamanga and her 24-year-old son were asleep in separate rooms when the assailants initially tried to break down the door. Failing to do so, the gang resorted to smashing the window and demanding cash.
A terrified Chakamanga handed over $500, but the robbers were undeterred, demanding more. As she called out for help, the attackers forcibly entered the house, violently assaulted Chakamanga with an iron rod, and ransacked the home. They made off with $200 in cash from her handbag, four cell phones, an iPad, a Huawei tablet, an HP laptop, and groceries.
The criminals didn’t stop there. They then demanded the keys to Chakamanga’s silver Toyota Rav4, which was parked outside. After seizing the car keys, the gang loaded the stolen goods into the vehicle and fled the scene.
The next morning, authorities discovered the stolen vehicle abandoned along a dust road near Go Beer farm in Northlea, Gweru. The car had been stripped of its battery, but the police recovered it as part of the investigation.
Inspector Mahoko appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of these dangerous individuals to come forward.
The total value of the stolen items is estimated at $11,980.
