Zimbabwe’s power supply received a major boost as electricity generation at Kariba Hydroelectric Power Plant surged to 485 MW on March 4th—the highest in nine months. This pushed national output to 1,304 MW, up from 910 MW the previous day.
The increase follows rising water levels at Lake Kariba, now at 9.6%, though still below last year’s 15.36%. The extra power is critical as Hwange Unit 7 remains offline for maintenance until March 29th.
For Zimbabwe’s mining sector, which relies on stable electricity, the improved generation eases pressure on costly diesel generators, reducing operational costs and boosting productivity.
