A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) special crime crack team in Kwekwe has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against housebreaking and theft, arresting three suspects linked to a series of burglaries across the district.
ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the arrests, which took place on January 25, 2025, led to the recovery of stolen property valued at approximately US$3,000. He said investigations so far have connected the suspects to at least seven cases of unlawful entry and theft, with some recovered items already identified by their rightful owners. However, police believe more stolen goods remain unaccounted for and expect to make further recoveries as investigations continue.
Inspector Mahoko said the three suspects, Mathias Marange, also known as Chikule (21), Ronald Masendu (25), and Auther Marima (36), all from Mbizo, Kwekwe, appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court on January 27. They were remanded in custody until February 3 to allow police to carry out additional investigations.
Authorities have called on residents who may have fallen victim to recent break-ins in Mbizo and surrounding areas to visit the ZRP Mbizo station to verify and possibly reclaim their stolen belongings. Additionally, police are appealing to members of the public with any information regarding housebreaking and theft in Kwekwe to come forward, emphasizing that this is an opportunity to bring criminals to justice.
Inspector Mahoko said among the stolen items recovered are a white 2019 model Fotomate projector, a silver Samsung A02 cellphone, a black Huawei LDNL21 cellphone, hybrid HSE 5,4 stage disco lights, a Tolsen toolbox, four 12-volt car batteries, an Ineco drill bit battery charger, a black and blue Macce mountain bike, a 100-watt floodlight, a 47-piece set of T-handle wrench screwdrivers, four electricity breakers, a blue 5kg gas tank, and a Toyota car radio.
