Mhondoro-Mubaira legislator , Chamunorwa Chiwanza, has urged the establishment of a formal mechanism to channel sports betting revenues into sports development.
Speaking during the post-budget recommendations debate in parliament, Chiwanza highlighted that the absence of a structured approach limits the effective use of these funds, which could significantly benefit the sports sector.
Starting January 1, 2025, Zimbabwe will impose a 10% withholding tax on all sports betting winnings to boost revenue collection. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube announced the tax during the 2025 National Budget presentation, citing the rapid growth of sports betting among youths and its untapped tax potential.
