In a shocking incident in Mncedisi Village, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru, a 23-year-old man was convicted for the brutal assault of his mother on November 18, 2024. The Gweru Magistrates Court found the accused guilty of domestic violence after he attacked his mother with an iron rod, leaving her with severe injuries.
The assault occurred when the accused, under the influence of alcohol, accused his mother of witchcraft. He struck her multiple times, causing a fractured skull and leaving her unconscious. The severity of the attack left the victim with a cut on her forehead and swollen eye, as confirmed by medical reports.
The court, emphasizing the gravity of domestic violence, remanded the accused in custody until December 3, 2024, for sentencing. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) has underscored the importance of prosecuting such offenses vigorously, aiming to deter similar acts of violence.
