A 22-year-old man from Mudziwepasi Village, Chief Serima, Gutu, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for the attempted murder of a female companion.
Trymore Mbengo was convicted at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court after he stabbed the complainant in a violent dispute on October 8, 2024, in Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge.
The altercation began around 3:00 AM when Mbengo and the complainant had a misunderstanding. In the heat of the argument, Mbengo pulled out an okapi knife and stabbed the woman on the left side of her chest, causing her to collapse. Eyewitnesses who witnessed the attack quickly intervened and apprehended the accused, making a citizens’ arrest before he could flee.
Mbengo was sentenced to 4 years in prison, with 30 months suspended for 5 years, leaving him with an effective sentence of 18 months.
