A 27-year-old man, Courage Zimuto, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for illegally cutting and damaging telecommunications cables, violating the Postal and Telecommunications Act.
The incident occurred on 7 September 2024 in Meyrick Park, Harare, where Zimuto cut TelOne drop wires, white insulators, and copper cables valued at USD 400. A passerby noticed the crime in progress, apprehended Zimuto, and handed him over to the police.
Zimuto was convicted and handed a 10-year sentence, underscoring the government’s stance on protecting critical infrastructure.
