A 29-year-old man, Langton Maramba, has been sentenced to nine months in prison, with three months suspended, after pleading guilty to assault charges at the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court.
The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, at Chatindo Bottle Store, where Maramba and the 30-year-old complainant were drinking beer. An argument between the two escalated over a cue stick, leading Maramba to strike the complainant in the face with his elbow. The blow caused the complainant to fall unconscious, resulting in deep cuts and the loss of two teeth.
In court, Maramba admitted to the charges and was handed the sentence, of which he will serve six months effectively.
