Former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, has been released on bail after his arrest on Saturday on charges of money laundering. Jugnauth, along with three others, was detained following raids by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) on 10 locations, including his home, where $2.4 million in cash and luxury watches were seized.
His lawyer denied the charges, and Jugnauth was granted bail on $32,000. His wife , Kobita, was questioned but not charged. The former PM’s arrest follows his loss in the elections 100 days ago, with his successor, Navin Ramgoolam, pledging to tackle corruption. Jugnauth was ordered not to contact witnesses and must remain at a fixed address.
