A 43-year old man from Mberengwa has been jailed for eight years after being convicted of assaulting his 15-year-old daughter to death for sneaking out of the house at night. Two years were however suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Sibehlule Madhibha of Mawire Village, under Chief Bankwe in Mberengwa, was found guilty of the murder of his daughter Bekezela Dube.
He was convicted by High Court Judge Justice Thompson Mabhikwa at Gweru Circuit High Court.
It was the state’s case that on 2 March in 2015 Madhibha discovered that his daughter had sneaked out of her bedroom. He then met the deceased on her way from a business centre and inquired why she had sneaked out but the deceased failed to give him a satisfactory answer.
The court heard that Madhibha assaulted his daughter with an electric power cable all over the body several times. She collapsed and fell unconscious. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died upon admission.
