A 56-year-old woman from Mberengwa has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated indecent assault of a minor.
The sentence was handed down by the Zvishavane Regional Magistrates’ Court, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
The court heard that the incident occurred on 10 March 2026 at around 1pm when the 13-year-old boy visited the woman’s homestead in a village under Chief Mketi’s area.
Prosecutors said the woman asked the boy to enter her bedroom hut. When he refused, she allegedly forced him inside and shut the door.
The minor later reported the incident to his father later that day. A police report was subsequently filed on 12 March 2026, leading to the woman’s arrest.
Following court proceedings, the woman was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years’ effective imprisonment.
The NPAZ said the case highlights the seriousness of offences involving minors, emphasising that such acts are a grave violation of the law and the rights of children.
