Mbizo Member of Parliament, Corban Madzivanyika, has expressed strong criticism of Zimbabwe’s 2025 national budget, labeling it as “heartless” and “a slap in the face” for the country’s vulnerable populations.

Speaking in a recent interview, Madzivanyika argued that the budget failed to address the pressing needs of the poor, particularly through the lack of tax relief or measures to stimulate economic growth.

“The fundamental purpose of a national budget is to distribute resources equitably, but we have seen no real change in this budget compared to previous years,” said Madzivanyika. He highlighted that the Minister of Finance’s tight fiscal and monetary policies might restrict economic growth, urging the government to introduce more measures for growth and relief for those suffering due to the current economic challenges.

Madzivanyika also criticized the government’s commitment to sectors like health, education, and social protection, pointing to underwhelming allocations. He called on the government to address corruption, which he claims has cost the nation $9.2 billion between 2020 and 2023, more than the entire 2025 budget. “This budget fails to protect our people. It is an ill-conceived assault on the poor,” Madzivanyika concluded.
