The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of continued rainfall and possible flooding in parts of Zimbabwe, as the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) remains over much of the country.
MSD Chief Forecaster James Ngoma said widespread rains have already been received, with more moisture expected from Tuesday through to Friday, driven by south-easterly flows. He noted that the system is likely to bring cooler, cloudy conditions and increased precipitation.
Ngoma said some areas could receive up to 50 millimetres of rainfall, with thunderstorms expected, particularly along the main watershed covering parts of the Midlands. Lighter rains are forecast for southern regions and parts of Manicaland, though localized heavy downpours may still occur up to Saturday.
He warned that intense rainfall upstream could trigger sudden flooding downstream, even in areas recording low rainfall amounts locally. The public has been urged not to cross flooded rivers and to remain on high alert.
The Met Department said it will continue to update the public on areas expected to receive significant rainfall, urging citizens to prioritise safety during the ongoing rainy period.
