The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and violent storms in parts of the country, advising residents to seek shelter and avoid crossing flooded rivers.

Weather forecaster Baba Makheta of the MSD cautioned that flash floods and strong winds are expected, prompting concerns over disruptions to farming activities. Farmers are urged to ensure their fields are well-drained to prevent damage.

Tropical Cyclone Chido brought much-needed rainfall to Zimbabwe on Tuesday, interacting with a mid-level cloud band from Botswana to deliver heavy downpours in some areas, with rainfall totals exceeding 60mm.

While the cyclone had a minimal impact on Zimbabwe, having weakened to an overland depression with low wind speeds, it caused significant damage in the Mayotte French Indian Ocean territory and Mozambique, resulting in numerous fatalities and widespread destruction.
