The need for stronger collaboration between miners and local authorities, improved road access to mining areas, and increased investment in infrastructure, schools, and health facilities took centre stage at the first-ever District Development Strategy (DDS) meeting hosted by Runde Rural District Council.

The meeting, held at the Runde Boardroom with support from Silveira House, marked a major step in aligning district-level planning with the forthcoming National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), set to run from 2026 to 2030.

The gathering brought together miners, community representatives, and policymakers, creating a platform for inclusive dialogue on the district’s development priorities.

Temba Sibanda, speaking on behalf of the Zvishavane-Mberengwa Miners Association, outlined key issues miners want incorporated into the DDS. He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between miners and the council, addressing poor road networks leading to mining areas, and expanding essential services.

“If these things are addressed, we will see real development in the district,” Sibanda said.

Runde RDC officials said the meeting was the beginning of a structured approach to planning and would help shape a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving livelihoods across the district.
