The Zimbabwe Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning to Great Dyke residents to exercise caution as flash floods are expected in various parts of the country this week. Residents are advised to avoid crossing flooded rivers and water bodies during this period.

Flash floods are sudden and intense flooding events that occur within a short time, usually caused by heavy rainfall in a localized area. These floods can develop quickly, often within minutes or hours, and can be highly destructive.

Weather forecaster Baba Maketa, speaking to Great Dyke News, emphasized the need for residents in poorly drained areas to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant for signs of flooding.

Maketa also advised farmers to ensure their fields are well-drained to protect their crops from waterlogging. Excessive water in the soil can damage plant roots, reduce oxygen availability, and lead to poor crop yields. Proper drainage is essential to maintain healthy crop growth during heavy rains.

Residents and farmers are encouraged to stay informed of weather updates and adhere to safety measures.
