A Mvuma man, Trust Khaki, has been convicted of murdering his 15-month-old daughter at the High Court in Gweru. Khaki, who was 35 years old at the time of the crime, brutally killed the infant on February 19, 2021.
According to court details, the child’s mother left her in Khaki’s custody to collect the family’s social welfare food. Upon her return, she found Khaki holding the child, who was struggling to breathe. The baby had a deformed forehead, bruises on her chin, a swollen left side, and a scratch on her back. The infant was rushed to her grandmother’s home, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that the child had been struck on the head with a blunt object and had multiple injuries over her body. Khaki was arrested after a police report was filed.
The court will sentence Khaki today.
